Evaluation of Preliminary Task.
Throughout our short piece we have shown our knowledge of the different typesof shots, the effect they have, the genre of our piece and our understanding of how films are made.
We used match on action to show continuity in our work, the less obvious our editing is, the more the audience will understand what is going on. We used this technique through out the whole piece however some points it was stronger than others. We could have used it a little more, for example, whilst the three agents walked in, we could of shown this from different directions along with close-ups, mid-shots and long shots. However, we did use it on the victim, we kept the same direction but changed the closeness. We started off with a mid shot, then moved on to have a longshot of her and ended with a close up.
Shot reverse shot was used to record the conversations going on between the victim and the various agents. By not breaking the 180 degree rule, shot reverse shot became successful and therfore more convincing and less confusing.
To get a low angle shot, to have an intimidating effect, we had to reduce the height of the tripod and tilt the camera upwards. We also had to move the camera closer to where the character was to get the shot we wished for, a long but close shot of one of the agents.
The mise-en-scene gives the audience an automatic feel of the atmosphere and image of the scene. By using props such as plastic guns and water pistols, we emphasised the comedy genre. The use of the grey and cheaper looking chair against the more expensive looking chair, contributed in showing the status of the two characters, suggesting one has more power than the other. We should have used low key lighting to set the scene more accurately, to create a more dark and thrilling effect, however, we used ambient lighting having forgotton the idea of the story.
Overall, we was successful in presenting the genre through use of speech, props, drama etc however, the continuity could have been better if he drama was more accurate. For example, in one of the shots, the victim gets shot, the following shots show the victim speaking, this is impossible. The mistake in our narrative effected the quality of continuity as it lead to confusion. We also didn't cut some of the shots as muchas we could have so there are long pauses and character freezes which makes the editing more obvious. Although some of this could of been done better, the shots were clear and they did run smoothly, it was the drama that let it down slightly.
As a group we have learnt that we need to be organised in order to achieve a successful piece. We have learnt that you have to work as a team, al contribute with the shooting and the cutting and editing. You have to listen very carefully on how to use the capture program on the laptop as it can be quite tricky. It takes alot of decision maing when choosing where to cut during the process of editing.

During the process of my Preliminary Task.
During the 2nd lesson we had to film our short piece, we filmed all our individual scenes. Some werent exactly what we planned in our stoaryboard however they looked successful.
For our 3rd and 4th lesson, we started the editing on the laptops. We experienced a few difficulties on capturing the individual scenes as we did not seperate them clear enough by using the pieces of paper tha said Shot 1 Shot 2 etc. However, we eventually managed to capture all the scenes we wished and during our next lesson we will cut parts of the shots that we don't want.

Friday 3rd October Lessons 5+6
For our first lesson to start filming our preliminary work, we se out the room in preperation for the scenes. We then decided exactly were our first 3 shots would be taken. Next, we practiced the action in the individual shots before shooting it, twice. We came across a few mistakes such as having the camera too close to focus on the whole of the characters body, cutting out the upper half of them. However, by practising more and recording repeatedly, we got a few succeesful shots. Next lesson we plan to be more focused and get straight into the work. We hope to complete all the shots and how they should be done according to our storyboard plan.
